Welcome to 4th Grade!
Dear 4th Grade Families,
I am so excited to have your child in my class for this fall! Can you believe they are starting 4th grade? Where does the time go? I am writing to give you some pointers for what to do with your child over the year to promote academic success.
It is very important that you encourage your child to read every day--even for just 15 minutes. For some of you this will not be a hard task because your child has come to love reading and the exciting adventures they have when they open each new book. For others this task will be more difficult. I assure you that if your child reads for at least 15 minutes or more each day, he/she will do better in school throughout the year.
Another thing that would really help is to practice math facts: addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. Playing games with these facts is a great way to practice. Play WAR with a regular deck of cards. The first person to say the sum or product gets the cards. Write some facts on a hopscotch board. Your child needs to have basic facts memorized before starting fourth grade. Practice, practice, practice!
Last but not least, the following is a list of school supplies your child will need at the start of school:
1-2 package of loose-leaf wide-ruled paper
3 folders
1 composition notebook
two 24-packs of #2 wooden pencils
one 4-pack of chisel-tip dry-erase markers
one 12-pack of colored pencils
1 pair of scissor
1 bottle of white liquid glue
1 glue stick
1-2 large boxes of tissues
1 container of disinfectant wipes
earbuds or headphones
I look forward to meeting with you during Back to School Conferences!

- One of our goals in 4th grade is to build a safe class community where everyone feels welcome. So, many supplies (pencils, dry-erase markers, colored pencils, glue, and scissors) will be shared community style with the entire class. We will not have traditional desks with storage space. Instead, students will have supply stations for each cooperative learning group. Please stick to basic supplies for your child. Anything that is personalized, fancy, or not on the list may be sent home.
I look forward to meeting with you during Back to School Conferences!
